Maple Leafs makeover continues

The Toronto Maple Leafs, mired in a season long slump have clearly hit the rebuild switch. The team announced the trade of captain Zdeno Chara and a 2021 3rd round pick to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defenceman Brenden Dillon and a 2020 FLA 1. "I want to thank Zdeno for all he's done for the Maple Leafs," said GM Garrett Hansford. "He is a legend who led us to our Stanley Cup 2 years ago. We wanted to give him another chance to win the Stanley Cup. We simply couldn't provide that opportunity here so we moved him to a team with great leadership, veterans and a great chance to win." After a terrible start, the Maple Leafs clearly made the decision to re-tool their roster. The team now holds 3 1st round picks in what is considered a deep draft. In addition, the team has also opened significant cap space. "After multiple years of Stanley Cup contention, our start dictated that we should look to the future. So we decided we need to add some more youth to the organization. We think we'e done that with the deals so far this season."
